Fortune Cookies — Not Just for Eating …
I had a fortune cookie with dinner yesterday. Normally, I don’t remember to eat them, and even then I often don’t bother with reading the fortune. In general, I thought of them the same as horoscopes and prophecies—something too generic to have any real predictive power. Because of this, I tend to not even bother reading them …
Yesterday I realized I have been squandering an opportunity.
My fortune was ‘Someone you respect will honor you publicly,’ or something close to that (I am paraphrasing, the slip of paper is already in the trash). It brought to mind a story my mom told me very recently. The story is not important, but the realization that the very broad nature of the ‘prediction’ prompted me look for something positive in my life.
A reminder to look for positive happenings is such a wonderful thing! We humans are wired to remember bad events so much more easily than good—anything to counteract that is a huge plus in my book.
